The brief here was for a bee friendly garden, surrounding a deck. It also had to be child friendly, so no foxgloves or euphorbias. They didn't want to attract wasps, so no kniphofia either. Viewed from the kitchen window, in full sun, with an avenue of Lime trees near by, so bee heaven, before I even started.
It had been a bit of a mess at the end of the garden, with a trampoline and some "past their sell date" shrubs.

Planted up in October 2014. I will update photos, as it matures. Shrubs in this planting include Mahonia, Perovskia, Cistus, Caryopteris and Cytisus. Lavenders will be added in the Spring. Clematis mandschurica is to go up the trellis (a small white flowered, scented number, which bees like). Underplanting includes wallflowers, perennial wallflowers, salvias, hyssops, echinacea, heuchera, lupins, aubrieta, agapanthus and betony.
There are crocus, daffodils and tulips sleeping in the soil...well, I hope they are not ASLEEP, but preparing to grow.
Warren Challis and his apprentice made the deck and raised beds.

In the following Spring and Summer
By the end of the Summer, it had really filled out and was alive with bees.
In the Spring, I added a raised bed for one of the children in the family to use for growing vegetables.......he produced some wonderful strawberries and carrots and his tomatoes went mad.
